Traceability

On the trail of process values

Traceability means the documentation of the process steps involved in the manufacture of a product, including:
  • Process and measurement values
  • Testing information
  • Production states which have taken place
  • Processed raw materials and components as well as their association for unique and permanent identification.
traceability
Traceability includes both the concept for gathering process information, their unique identification, as well as the mechanisms for visualization and statistical processing. The kind of visualization of the process data depends on the data type and other specific requirements.

Creating the documentation of a manufacturing process requires that all relevant production information are specified and described. The traceability concept also describes implementation of the traceability requirements within production. Consistency of information procurement and unambiguous relation of the process values to products and lots is the main prerequisite to ensure traceability.
