The rising capability of computers and increasing performance of operating systems has made it possible to utilize these potentials for equipment controlling as well.
 
High-performance field bus systems and ethernet communication are available for interfacing the process signals. Client-server architectures are used to distribute the variety of functions.
 
Integration of PLC-based systems for controlling sub-functions can be efficiently implemented using modern communication technologies (such as OPC). The use of high-level languages such as C++ and C# ensures efficient programming.
